ATLANTA – State Representative Bubber Epps (R-Dry Branch) was presented with Mercer University’s 2016 Distinguished Alumnus Award at the university’s second annual Alumni Awards Dinner on Friday, November 4, 2016, during the school’s Homecoming celebration.
“I am sincerely honored and grateful to receive this recognition from my alma mater, Mercer University,” said Rep. Epps. “My collegiate years spent at Mercer taught me the importance of higher education, hard work, respect and humility, and I am proud to both represent and advocate on behalf of my beloved college at the State Capitol.”
The Distinguished Alumnus Award, one of Mercer University’s three traditional Homecoming awards, recognizes individuals who serve in their profession in an exceptional manner, and in doing so, honor Mercer University’s legacy.
Rep. Epps earned both his Bachelor of Science and Master of Education from Mercer University. He has been a devoted alumnus and personal advocate for Mercer University through his work and public service for more than 50 years.
Founded in 1833, Mercer University is a dynamic and comprehensive center of undergraduate, graduate and professional education. The University enrolls more than 8,600 students in 12 schools and colleges – liberal arts, law, pharmacy, medicine, business, engineering, education, theology, music, nursing, health professions, and Penfield College of Mercer University – on campuses in Macon, Atlanta and Savannah – and three regional academic centers in the Atlanta metro area. The Mercer Health Sciences Center includes the university’s medical, nursing, health professions and pharmacy schools. Mercer is affiliated with four teaching hospitals – Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah; Medical Center, Navicent Health, in Macon; and Midtown Medical Center and St. Francis Hospital in Columbus. Mercer University also has an educational partnership with Warner Robins Air Logistics Complex in Warner Robins. It operates an academic press and a performing arts center in Macon and an engineering research center in Warner Robins. Mercer is one of only 286 institutions nationwide to shelter a chapter of The Phi Beta Kappa Society, the nation’s most prestigious academic honor society, and is the only private university in Georgia to field an NCAA Division I athletic program.

Representative Bubber Epps represents the citizens of District 144, which includes portions of Bibb, Bleckley, Houston, Jones, Laurens, Twiggs, and Wilkinson counties. He was elected into the House of Representatives in 2008, and currently serves as the Chairman of the Small Business Development Committee and the Secretary of the Transportation Committee.
