ATLANTA – The House Democratic Caucus met to elect it key leaders on Tuesday, November 15, 2016. The Minority Caucus re-elected House Minority Leader Stacey Abrams (D-Atlanta) and House Minority Whip Carolyn Hugley (D-Columbus) for their current positions, as well as House Minority Caucus Secretary Pat Gardner (D-Atlanta), House Minority Caucus Treasurer David Wilkerson (D-Powder Springs) and House Minority Deputy Whip Gloria Frazier (D-Hephzibah). The Minority Caucus also elected State Representative Stacey Evans (D-Smyrna) as the new House Minority Caucus Chairwoman and Rep. Robert Trammell (D-Luthersville) as the new House Minority Caucus Vice-Chairman.
“I am deeply honored to continue serving as Minority Leader of the House Caucus, and I congratulate Representatives Hugley, Evans, Gardner, Wilkerson, Frazier and Trammell on their leadership roles,” said House Minority Leader Abrams. “We have a tremendous amount of work ahead of us, and we must be clear voices for progress on behalf of Georgians in the wake of a disheartening national election. I look forward to a legislative session where we move our state forward and push back against regressive policies that will harm working families in our state.
“Georgia came very close to becoming purple this cycle, and outperformed states across the country despite our comparatively few resources. Because of that, we are being looked at differently than we were a week ago, as a place where Democratic victory is possible. I will continue to fight for victory, seat by seat, on behalf of Georgians who need leaders on their side.”
Representative Stacey Abrams represents the citizens of District 89, which includes portions of DeKalb County. She was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2006 and currently serves on the Appropriations, Ethics, Judiciary Non-Civil, Rules and Ways & Means committees.
Representative Carolyn Hugley represents the citizens of District 136, which includes portions of Muscogee County. She was elected into the House of Representatives in 1992, and currently serves on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Health and the Ethics, Insurance, and Rules committees.
Representative Stacey Evans represents the citizens of District 42, which includes portions of Cobb County. She was elected into the House of Representatives in 2010, and currently serves on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Public Safety and the Interstate Cooperation, Judiciary, Juvenile Justice, and Rules committees.
Representative Bob Trammell Jr. represents the citizens of District 132, which includes portions of Coweta, Meriwether, and Troup County. He was elected into the House of Representatives in 2014, and currently serves on the Information & Audits, Judiciary Non-Civil, and Motor Vehicles committees
Representative Pat Gardner represents the citizens of District 57, which includes portions of Fulton County in the City of Atlanta. She was elected into the House of Representatives in 2000, and currently serves on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Health and the Ethics, Higher Education, Natural Resources & Environment, and Transportation Committees.
Representative David Wilkerson represents the citizens of District 38, which includes portions of Cobb County. He was elected into the House of Representatives in 2010, and currently serves on the Budget & Fiscal Affairs Oversight, Juvenile Justice, Retirement, and Science & Technology committees.
Representative Gloria Frazier represents the citizens of District 126, which includes portions of Burke and Richmond counties. She was elected into the House of Representatives in 2006, and currently serves on the Banks & Banking, Budget & Fiscal Affairs Oversight, Energy, Utilities & Telecommunications, and Public Safety & Homeland Security committees.
