House Speaker David Ralston Names Rep. Len Walker Chairman of the Higher Education Committee

ATLANTA- Representative Len Walker (R-Loganville) has been named chairman of the House Higher Education Committee. House Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge) made the announcement during the first week of the legislative session.
“Representative Len Walker is the right person to lead the Higher Education Committee,” said Speaker Ralston. “As someone who has previously served on this committee as a member, Representative Walker has the skills and knowledge to lead this committee and ensure that our state’s university system remains strong.”
The House Higher Education Committee considers issues relating to the state’s public and independent colleges and universities, public community and technical colleges, and private career schools. The committee also hears legislation that involves governance and coordination of higher education, financial aid, and tuition.
“It has been my honor to serve on the Higher Education Committee since 2005,” said Chairman Walker. “I am very aware of the enormous value and importance of our state’s colleges and universities. It is my desire to see our colleges and universities grow and prosper even in this economic climate.”
Representative Walker will continue to serve on the Appropriations, Human Relations and Aging, Rules, and State Planning and Community Affairs Committees.
