Rep. Gravley Offers Condolences to Firefighter Frank Martinez’s Family

ATLANTA – State Representative Micah Gravley (R-Douglasville) today offered condolences to the family of Atlanta veteran firefighter Frank Martinez who passed away on Tuesday, December 20, 2017, after battling stage four cancer.

“My heartfelt condolences go out to the family of firefighter Frank Martinez,” said Rep. Gravley. “He was truly an inspiration, and I am thankful God allowed me to meet him. I will continue to fight for firefighters across Georgia as Frank did this past year. God bless his memory and service.”

During the 2016 legislative session, Rep. Gravley sponsored House Bill 216, legislation that would add cancer to the list of occupational diseases covered by a firefighter’s worker’s compensation benefits if it is proven that the cancer was caused by the individual’s employment, which is not allowed under current Georgia law.

HB 216, also known as the Firefighter Cancer Bill, passed overwhelmingly in the Georgia House of Representatives and unanimously in the Georgia State Senate. The bill, however, was later vetoed.
