Rep. Beasley-Teague Appointed to Leadership Position with NFWL

ATLANTA – State Representative Sharon Beasley-Teague (D-Red Oak) was recently selected to serve on the 2017 National Foundation for Women Legislators (NFWL) Nominating Committee. NFWL is the nation’s oldest non-partisan organization addressing the needs of elected women at the city, county and state levels of government.

“I am honored to be appointed to serve on NFWL’s 2017 Nominating Committee,” said Rep. Beasley-Teague. “NFWL works to empower and inspire women legislators across the country, and I look forward to continuing to support NFWL’s mission in this leadership role.”

As a member of the Nominating Committee, Rep. Beasley-Teague will help appoint future NFWL leaders and prepare the Board of Directors’ slate, a group of leaders within NFWL, to present at the 2017 Annual Conference. The Nominating Committee ensures the proposed Board of Directors’ slate reflects the diversity of NFWL’s general membership. The Nominating Committee also assists the Chair in appointing members to committees and as committee chairs.

From November 14-18, 2017, elected women across the country will gather in Minneapolis, Minnesota, for NFWL’s Annual Conference to identify effective solutions to some of the nation’s most pressing issues. By providing a non-partisan environment that encourages open dialogue, women leaders will be able to build coalitions, share their constituents’ concerns and craft solutions to important issues facing their communities.

“We are so honored Rep. Beasley-Teague has accepted a leadership position in our foundation,” said Minnesota State Senator Carrie Ruud, NFWL’s 2017 Chair. “She will play a crucial role in the continued success of NFWL as we embark on our most exciting year yet.”

Rep. Beasley-Teague will serve on NFWL’s Nominating Committee through the end of this year.

Through annual educational and networking events, the National Foundation for Women Legislators supports elected women from all levels of governance. As a non-profit, non-partisan organization, NFWL does not take ideological positions on public policy issues, but rather serves as a forum for women legislators to be empowered through information and experience.
