Rep. Beasley-Teague Appointed to NCSL Labor and Economic Development Committee

ATLANTA – House Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge) recently appointed State Representative Sharon Beasley-Teague (D-Red Oak) to the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) Labor and Economic Development Committee. The Labor and Economic Development Committee is one of nine NCSL Standing Committees, which provides a forum for the discussion of major issues facing the states and allows legislators to learn from the experiences of other states.
“I’m proud and honored to be appointed by the Speaker to represent our state on this national committee,” said Rep. Beasley-Teague. “I look forward to working with legislators across the nation to consider pressing labor and economic development issues.”

According to NCSL, the Labor and Economic Development Committee covers state and federal issues related to labor, employment, workforce and economic development, international trade and cultural affairs. The committee educates Congress and federal agencies about state concerns related to federal actions that impact the states, based on policy positions adopted by the states through NCSL’s policy process.

The appointment is for a two-year term concurrent with Rep. Beasley-Teague’s service as a member of the Georgia House of Representatives.

NCSL is a bipartisan organization that serves legislators and staff from across the nation. It provides research, technical assistance and opportunities for policymakers to exchange ideas on the most pressing state issues in addition to advocating for the interests of the states in the American federal system.
