ATLANTA – State Representative Dominic LaRiccia (R-Douglas) today announced that House Bill 247 was signed into law by Governor Nathan Deal on Monday, May 8, 2017. This legislation, sponsored by Rep. LaRiccia, will exempt certain manufacturing machinery from state sales and use tax.
“I’m thankful to Governor Deal for signing HB 247 into law to level playing field for the ready-mix concrete industry,” said Rep. LaRiccia. “Each year, 10 million yards of ready-mix concrete are poured within our state, which contributes to Georgia’s overall economic prosperity, and House Bill 247 is pro-business legislation that will allow the ready-mix concrete industry to continue to thrive in Georgia and help our state’s economy.”
House Bill 247 will update current Georgia law by exempting sales taxes from the maintenance and replacement parts for machinery or equipment used to mix, agitate and transport freshly mixed concrete. Under HB 247, motor fuel used in concrete mixer trucks is not exempt or refundable from sales and use tax. This exemption will expire on July 1, 2020.
