Rep. Houston Appointed to House Rural Development Council

ATLANTA – State Representative Penny Houston (R-Nashville) was recently appointed by Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge) to serve as an ex-officio member on the House Rural Development Council. This council, which was created by House Resolution 389 during the recent legislative session, will work with rural communities to find ways to encourage economic growth.

“I am grateful that Speaker Ralston appointed me to serve on this important council, and I’m eager to begin our crucial work exploring various policy areas that will stimulate economic growth across rural Georgia,” said Rep. Houston. “As a lifelong rural Georgian, I have seen and experienced first-hand the distinct challenges that plague our communities and economies, and I know the critical nature of this issue. My House colleagues and I are dedicated to providing real, workable solutions that will strengthen our rural economies and help all citizens who call rural Georgia home.”

Representative Penny Houston represents the citizens of District 170, which includes all of Berrien and Cook counties and portions of Tift County. She was elected into the House of Representatives in 1997, and is currently the Chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Economic Development. She also serves on the Banks & Banking, Budget & Fiscal Affairs Oversight, Economic Development & Tourism, and Ways & Means committees.
