Rep. Welch Appointed to Capitol Arts Standards Commission

ATLANTA – State Representative Andrew Welch (R-Locust Grove) was recently appointed by Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge) to serve as a member of the Capitol Arts Standards Commission.

WelchAndrewHeadshot“The Georgia State Capitol houses a massive art collection of portraits, paintings, sculptures and plaques, and each unique piece reflects our state’s rich and vibrant history,” said Rep. Welch. “It is my hope that Georgians for generations to come will learn from and enjoy the artwork found on Capitol grounds. I’m thankful to Speaker Ralston for appointing me to serve on this important commission, and I look forward to serving as we work to preserve the Capitol’s art collection.”

The Capitol Art Standards Commission, established by O.C.G.A. 45-13-70, is responsible for developing policies and procedures for the acquisition, installation, preservation, maintenance, display and storage of all artwork that is displayed in or on capitol grounds. The commission is also responsible for making recommendations to the governor and the General Assembly regarding changes in state statutes, policies, budgets and standards relating to the capitol art collection.

Representative Andrew Welch represents the citizens of District 110, which includes portions of Butts, Henry, and Newton Counties. He was elected into the House of Representatives in 2010, and currently serves as the Chairman to the Appropriations Subcommittee on Public Safety. He also serves on the Code Revision, Judiciary, Juvenile Justice, and Regulated Industries committees.
