ATLANTA – The Georgia Legislative Black Caucus (GLBC) today condemned the recent announcement from the White House stating that the President will end Obamacare cost-sharing subsidies that assist low-income and working class families.
“Nearly 6 million citizens in this country will lose health care when these Obamacare cost-sharing subsidies are cut, and that means thousands of Georgians would no longer have access to health care,” said State Representative William Boddie (D-East Point), GLBC Communications Chair. “These cuts will have a horrible effect on our citizens, and this executive order shows no compassion for low-income and working class families. We urged our colleagues in Congress to apply political pressure on the White House to not cut federal subsidies and to continue to allow cost-sharing for Obamacare for American Families who need it the most.”
“As the GLBC Chairman, I’m appalled by the intentions of President Donald Trump to cut the Obamacare Subsidies,” said State Senator Lestor Jackson (D-Savannah), GLBC Chair. “The effect of this unreasonable act would cause millions of low-income and working class American families to lose access to affordable health care. The Georgia Legislative Black Caucus and myself, are asking that the U.S. Congress to take action to allow federal subsidies to continue to share the cost of health care with Americans who need it the most and to develop a long-term solution so that millions of Americans can continue to have access to affordable health care for them and their children. We as Americans must band together and act to prevent harm to American Families who need health care.”
“Cutting the Obamacare subsidies is cruel and unjust punishment to working class families in Georgia and across the United States,” said State Representative Sandra Scott (D-Rex), GLBC Vice-Chairman.

Representative William Boddie represents the citizens of District 62, which includes portions of Douglas and Fulton counties.
