ATLANTA – State Representative Kevin Tanner (R-Dawsonville), Chairman of the House Transportation Committee and of the House Commission on Transit Governance & Funding, recently received the 2017 Georgia Transit Association’s President’s Award: Transit Champion of the Year for his contribution to transit and work with the House Study Commission on Transit Funding and Governance. The Georgia Transit Association (GTA) presented Rep. Tanner with the award at the conclusion of the House Commission on Transit Governance & Funding meeting in Savannah on Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2018.
“I’d like to extend my sincerest thanks to GTA for honoring me with this award,” said Rep. Tanner. “Georgia is the No. 1 state in the nation for business, but in order to maintain this prestigious title, we must ensure that Georgia’s transit system is able to accommodate our state’s growing businesses and commuters. It has been a privilege serve as the Chairman of the House Transportation Committee and the House Commission on Transit Governance and Funding and work alongside other state leaders to seek transit solutions during such a critical time in our state for transportation.”

The GTA Conference provides an opportunity for transit leaders across the state to come together to share best practices, find solutions, and improve services throughout communities in Georgia. Each year in December, GTA holds its annual conference. This year’s conference coincided with the House Commission on Transit Governance & Funding meeting in Savannah.
“Chairman Tanner is well deserving of this award for creating a transparent process and providing strong leadership as the state explores the next evolution of transit in Georgia,” said Rhonda Briggins, GTA President. “He is the right type of leader for this task and the Georgia Transit Association welcomes the focus and much needed attention on our industry.”

Representative Kevin Tanner represents the citizens of District 9, which includes portions of Dawson, Forsyth, and Lumpkin counties. He was elected in 2012, and currently serves as the Chairman of the Transportation Committee and the Secretary on the Intragovernmental Coordination Committee. He also serves on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Education, and the Education, Natural Resources & Environment and Special Rules committees.
