ATLANTA— Today the Georgia Senate overwhelmingly passed the Jobs, Opportunity, and Business Success Act of 2009 (J.O.B.S. Act).
“The House Republican Caucus has put a lot of work into creating and passing the JOBS Act,” said Rep. Tom Graves (R- Ranger). “I’d like to thank Senator Chip Rogers (R- Woodstock) for his help in getting this legislation through the Senate. By passing the JOBS Act today with broad, bi-partisan support, the Senate has shown great leadership on the issue of economic recovery. The quickest route to economic recovery is through the creation, expansion and attraction of sustainable jobs.”
The JOBS Act, comprised of HB 481 and HB 482, passed the House on March 12, 2009 by a vote of 164-4 and 166-0 respectively.
Since its introduction by Rep. Graves, the JOBS Act has received national attention. Last week, the Wall Street Journal published an article about the act titled, “Georgia Has Tax Cuts on Its Mind.” According to this article, former Reagan economist Arthur Laffer said by passing the JOBS Act, “Georgia will be dramatically increasing its competitiveness relative to other tax-raising states.”
