Rep. Greene Applauds Elections Board for Voting Down Proposal to Close Polling Sites

ATLANTA – State Representative Gerald Greene (R-Cuthbert) today applauded the Randolph County Board of Elections’ decision to vote down a proposal to close seven polling sites in Randolph County. The Randolph County Board of Elections today voted 2-0 to save these precincts.

“I am pleased that the Randolph County Board of Elections did the right thing today by voting down this proposal to keep these polling sites open for the November elections, and I consider today’s vote a major victory for the citizens of Randolph County,” said Rep. Greene. “I was strongly opposed to this proposal, and today our voices were heard. The right to vote is sacred, and we should always fight to protect this right for all citizens.”

Randolph County officials proposed to close seven out of nine polling places for the November election that were open during this year’s primary and runoff contests.

Representative Gerald Greene represents the citizens of District 151, which includes Calhoun, Clay, Early, Quitman, Randolph, Stewart, Terrell and Webster counties, as well as portions of Dougherty County. He was elected to the House of Representatives in 1982 and currently serves as Chairman of the State Properties Committee. He also serves on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Public Safety and the Economic Development & Tourism, Public Safety & Homeland Security, Retirement and Rules committees.
