ATLANTA — Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge) issued the following statement congratulating Chief Justice Harold D. Melton:
“I congratulate the new Chief Justice of Georgia’s Supreme Court Harold Melton as he is sworn in to his new position today. Chief Justice Melton is a respected jurist who brings years of experience to our state judiciary’s highest post. I look forward to working with him to keep our criminal justice system among the best in the nation.
“It is also fitting to thank departing Chief Justice Harris Hines as he begins his well-earned retirement. Chief Justice Hines has served on the bench for 44 years, including 23 years of service on our Supreme Court. I offer my best wishes to him and his wife, Helen.”
