House Transportation Chair Jay Roberts Announces Rep. Ed Rynders to Lead Approval Subcommittee

Rep. Ed Rynders to Chair the House Transportation Subcommittee on
Approval of the Director of Planning

ATLANTA- Today House Transportation Chairman Jay Roberts (R-Ocilla) named Rep. Ed Rynders (R-Albany) Chairman of the House Transportation Subcommittee on Approval of the Director of Planning. This subcommittee will consider Governor Sonny Perdue’s recent appointment, Mr. Todd Long, for the position of Director of Planning at the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) and make a recommendation to the full House Transportation Committee.

“Rep. Rynders has a thorough knowledge of the transportation issues that we face as a state and is a key member of the House Transportation Committee,” said Rep. Jay Roberts. “His leadership on this subcommittee will surely result in a thorough hearing.”
The House Transportation Committee is required by Senate Bill 200, which Governor Perdue signed into law May 11, 2009 to approve any personnel named to the Director of Planning position at GDOT.
“The Director of Planning position created by Senate Bill 200 emphasizes the need to approach transportation from a statewide perspective,” said Rep. Rynders. “I look forward to learning more about Mr. Long and how he intends to create a seamless transportation system throughout all of Georgia.”
The subcommittee is tentatively scheduled to begin approval hearings for the Director of Planning position in August. More information regarding a specific meeting time and place will follow.
