Rep. Stovall Hosts Senior Citizen Informational Workshops

ATLANTA – State Representative Valencia Stovall (D-Forest Park) recently hosted two informational workshops for senior citizens in House District 74. The workshops provided senior residents with information on specific resources for seniors available through federal, state, local and non-governmental agencies.

“Our seniors are the jewels in our communities, but many times their needs are overlooked,” said Rep. Stovall. “At these workshops, participants  had the opportunity to ask questions and hear feedback from the knowledgeable guest speakers, who were experts in the areas such as heirs properties and wills, property tax exemptions, energy, rent/mortgage, home repair assistance, SNAP and medical benefits, senior citizen helpline and more. These workshops were made possible by of the cooperation of my dedicated staff, the staff at both the Frank Bailey Senior Center and the City of Morrow. These workshops were especially impactful for our senior citizens because of the support of the Georgia Heirs Property Law Center, Clayton County Tax Commissioner’s office, Clayton County Community Services Authority, Georgia Department of Family and Children Services, Area Agency on Aging, Worksource Clayton, Angkor Resource Center and Jones Family Virtual Staffing.”

At the events, Rep. Stovall shared statistics on the outlook for children residing in Clayton County, and she challenged seniors to give back to children by sharing their talents and skills through a new community based project called Seniors Supporting Education.

All of the workshop attendees were invited to Senior Advocacy Day on Friday, February 8, 2019 at the State Capitol. On Senior Advocacy Day, Rep. Stovall will collaborate with the Atlanta Senior Citizens Coalition, which serves seniors residing in southeast Atlanta.
