Rep. Alisha Thomas Morgan Joins Star-Studded Day of Events to Celebrate Dr. C. T. Vivian’s 85th Birthday

ATLANTA – Rep. Alisha Thomas Morgan (D-Austell) will be featured at The C. T. Vivian Leadership Institute’s 85th Birthday Celebration for Dr. C. T. Vivian this Friday, July 31st, 2009. Dr. Vivian, a renowned minister, author, educator, humanitarian and community activist, was a close friend and lieutenant of Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. during the American Civil Rights Movement. Morgan is slated to headline two of the celebration’s main attractions, including a panel of intimate conversations with Dr. Vivian featuring some of the biggest names in the contemporary Civil Rights movement, and a memorable capstone evening dinner gala.

Morgan will open the day’s events with the Discussion Summit entitled Leadership Now: Passing the Torch, featuring conversations between Dr. Vivian and Warren Ballentine of the nationally-syndicated radio program “The Warren Ballentine Show”, Hosea Feed the Hungry’s Elizabeth Omilami, and the Honorable John Lewis, Representative for Georgia’s 5th Congressional District. Dr. Vivian will participate in this unique event and Morgan will facilitate one-on-one conversations with these icons and activists representing various cross sections of the community.
Concluding the birthday celebration, Morgan, along with news anchor Jovita Moore and actor Isaiah Washington of “Grey’s Anatomy” fame, will close out the day’s festivities by hosting the Narratives of My Life: A Spiritual Journey evening dinner gala with a special appearance by WSB-TV’s Monica Pearson. The event will include live performances from the Sinfo-Nia Youth Orchestra and Youth Ensemble of Atlanta, celebrating the life and accomplishments of Dr. Vivian.
The birthday commemoration, including the Discussion Summit and Narratives of my Life: A Spiritual Journey, is scheduled to take place at the Sheraton Atlanta Hotel located at 165 Courtland Street at International Boulevard in Atlanta, GA, from 9AM – 10PM.
