Representative Cox Urges Adoption of Fair Tax

ATLANTA- Representative Clay Cox (R- Lilburn) has introduced a resolution urging the United States Congress to adopt the Fair Tax Act.

“I believe that our current economic crisis is caused by a constitutional crisis,” said Rep. Cox. “The Federal government is destroying wealth with its oppressive and unfair taxation. The Fair Tax will return economic liberty to every American family and business.”

Rep. Cox’s resolution states that The Fair Tax Act should be passed because it replaces federal income and payroll taxes with a progressive national retail sales tax, ensuring no American pays federal taxes on spending up to the poverty level, and repeals the Sixteenth Amendment. This would relieve citizens from the burden of the current taxing structure, allowing citizens to be equally taxed on what they purchase, not what they earn. It brings transparency and accountability to tax policy and acts to ensure Social Security and Medicare funding. The Fair Tax also closes all current tax loopholes, brings fairness to taxation, abolishes the Internal Revenue Service, and relieves citizens from a penalizing tax system.
