Representatives Morgan & Fludd Announce Closing The Achievement Gap Education Summit

ATLANTA – The Closing the Achievement Gap Education Summit, co-sponsored by both Rep. Alisha Morgan (D-Austell) and Rep. Virgil Fludd (D-Tyrone), will take place at the State Capitol today, May 18th from 4 PM – 7 PM. The Summit will include an action center to connect stakeholders with advocacy organizations, followed by seminars in how the current achievement gap in Georgia education affects graduation rates and higher education. The Summit will conclude with a rally on the Capitol steps with remarks from civic and community leaders.

The Closing the Achievement Gap Education Summit marks the 55th anniversary of the landmark Brown v. the Board of Education of Topeka decision and is an opportunity to revisit how education policy can work for the betterment of all of children in the State of Georgia. The Summit will assemble local stakeholders in education to address new, innovative solutions to employ in closing the achievement gap amongst Georgia’s students.
