State Representative Rick Austin Accepted to The Program for Emerging Political Leaders

ATLANTA—State Representative Rick Austin (R- Demorest) has been accepted to The Program for Emerging Political Leaders. The prestigious program, hosted by the State Legislative Leaders Foundation (SLLF) and the Darden School of Business (Darden) at the University of Virginia, is designed to enhance the leadership potential and vision of our country’s greatest up and coming leaders.

“I am honored to have been chosen for this important program. To be considered one of the ‘best and brightest’ up and coming leaders in the nation is truly humbling,” said Rep. Austin. “I always strive to represent my constituents in the best ways possible. The training I receive at The Program for Emerging Political Leaders will help me to be a more successful legislator and an even better representative for the people of Habersham and White Counties.”
After being nominated for the program by Speaker Pro Tem Mark Burkhalter (R-Johns Creek), Austin was chosen from candidates around the country by a committee composed of SLLF senior staff and Darden faculty.
“Representative Austin seemed a clear choice for this program,” said Speaker Pro Tem Burkhalter. “In his first year in the House of Representatives, he demonstrated the leadership abilities to not just give back to his constituents, but to affect policy in the General Assembly that will better our state. I am confident that he will serve as an excellent ambassador and look forward to working with him for many years to come.”
From July 12-15, 2009, Austin will join approximately 35 other leaders from around the country for a series of highly interactive discussions and seminars. During this time the emerging leaders will learn from some of the most successful political and business leaders in the nation.
