ATLANTA— House Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge) today announced the appointment of state Representative Jay Powell (R-Camilla) to the Southern Legislative Conference (SLC) Fiscal Affairs & Government Operations (FA&GO) Committee. As the presiding officer of the Georgia House of Representatives, Speaker Ralston is charged with selecting members to represent Georgia within SLC.

Rep. Jay Powell Honored as “Legislator of the Year” By Georgia Retail Association

ATLANTA— State Representative Jay Powell (R-Camilla) was named as the 2010 “Legislator of the Year” by the Georgia Retail Association (GRA).  Rep. Powell received the honor for his work on House Bill 1082, which was designed to allow local governments in Georgia to decide if they wanted to provide inventory tax relief to businesses within their limits. House Passes Legislation to Allow Local Governments to Expand Freeport Exemptions

ATLANTA – The Georgia House of Representatives today passed House Bill 1082 by a vote of 151-4.  Sponsored by Representative Jay Powell (R-Camilla), HB 1082 is aimed at allowing local governments to expand Freeport ad valorem exemptions to all types of business inventory. Continue reading
